Say No To Junk Food- A New Step By Maharashtrian Government To Make Lives Healthier And Smarter


Banning Junk Food in School Canteens have always been an issue for encouraging good and healthy eating habits for children. Maharashtra Government has imposed an official ban on the sale of junk food in school canteens.

A Government Resolution has prepared a list of food items which can be sold at canteens and which cannot be. There is a list of 12 food items consists of potato chips, noodles, carbonated soft drinks, pizza, burger, cakes, biscuits, buns, pastries ,etc. which cannot be sold.

There is also a list of items which can be sold at canteens comprises of roti, vegetable pulav, idli-vada, coconut water, jaljira and many more. The GR said that the Union Government has made a special Task Force under the Chairmanship of director, National Nutrition Institute, Hyderabad to ban sale of junk food in school canteens so that children can maintain their healthy diet.

The Task Force is also making people aware by telling them about the adverse effects of junk food. They told in their reports that it contain high levels of fat, sugar and salt and its nutritional value is very low and can lead to serious disorders like Diabetes, Heart ailments in later life.
